"Learning in, for and by the Government is changing! A changing government workforce, an expanded agenda, a contracted budget and pressure to adopt digital, distributed and social learning modes present opportunities and challenges in the public sector.”
- Elliott Masie, Chair, Learning CONSORTIUM

Learning & Government Briefing & RoundTable
May 3rd, 2010 - Washington, DC
Learning & Government is a special one-day briefing and roundtable program focused on changes in learning in the world of government (federal, state and local). Led by Elliott Masie
(Chair, The Learning CONSORTIUM) and Jonathan Kayes (former CLO of the CIA) with a special, live video segment from Betsy Myers (Leadership Expert and former COO of the Obama Campaign), we will focus on :
- Learning Changes – Video, Mobile, Collaborative, Social and Self-Service: Updates on evolving approaches to providing learning to employees, contractors and citizen/customers. We will explore best practices in both the government as well as the private sector.
- Changing Learning Landscape in Government: How has learning evolved in the first sixteen months of the Obama Administration? What is changing with training and development of the federal workforce? How is learning being deployed as part of new initiatives and programs?
- Learning and Talent in Government: What new leadership skills are required in government and how do we develop our employees to those requirements? What shifts are needed to prepare for an impending retirement bubble and economically delayed retirements?
- Government vs. Corporate Learning – Compare & Contrast: We will dive into several distinct models for enterprise learning in the government sector and compare/contrast them with practices in the corporate sector.
- Changes in the Learning Marketplace: How is the marketplace and procurement for learning services and products in the government sector changing? We’ll explore shifts in providers, procurement and the role of open source assets.
The Learning & Government briefing and roundtable will be a unique opportunity for learning leaders and professionals working in the government sector to have a vendor-neutral dialogue on the changing nature of our field! Elliott Masie will be joined by a series of colleagues from various agencies and the corporate sector to provide perspective and facilitation throughout the day. In times of dramatically reduced travel, this special event has been sited in Washington, DC and value priced to accommodate your budgets and restrictions.
